The Government Girls Post Graduate College was established on 15th of August, 1978 by the Uttar Pradesh government. Initially, classes in this college were started with 34 girl students in seven subjects. Today it is moving strongly on its 41st step. At present, more than 2000 girl students, 17 professors, 04 third class and 02 fourth class employees are working in the college. Currently, 13 subjects are being conducted at the graduate level in the Faculty of Arts and in the Faculty of Science at the graduate level, regular classes are being conducted in 05 subjects since 2005-06. Postgraduate classes are conducted in six subjects in the Arts group. The college is offering post graduate courses in Hindi and Sociology since 1982.
The college has been granted recognition under Section 2 (F) and 12 (B) of University Grant Commission, New Delhi. Presently, under the National Higher Education Campaign, the up gradation of the basic facilities is going on. The construction of the building has been completed for M.Sc. in Botany subject and teaching is going to start in the upcoming time. It is the result of continuous progress that this college has been selected as the Center of Excellence for higher education among the 10 government colleges of Uttar Pradesh.
The college is determined to achieve the goal of quality in higher education. In this direction, to conduct fair examinations, maintain discipline, run consistent classes and maintain transparency in serious issues like women’s safety, CCTV cameras have been installed in the college, which are monitored from the principal’s room. For leadership ability and all round development of girl students, arrangement of zero periods in college were made in the last years which are still being operated. Every Saturday, under the direction of IQAC, various programs are organised. Discussion, lectures, workshops on social, cultural, national and contemporary issues and employment related guidance programs have been held under the direction of IQAC.
By the efforts of the hardworking and progressive Principal of the college, Dr. Balkrishna Pandey, a new phase of creative work has started in the college. Under his able guidance, the college is moving towards its goals at a multi-dimensional pace. On the occasion of Independence Day, chair competition was organized along with tree plantation and tree donation. In September, a series of lectures was organized by the Hindi Department on Hindi Day in which Principal of J.N. College, Dr. Nandlal Shukla was the chief guest. On 16 September 2017, cleanliness camp was arranged and cleanliness awareness rally was taken out.
Under the supervision of Rangers in-charge Dr. Zeba Khan , a three-day camp was organized with new experiments from 11th November to 15th November in which systematic training was given for ranger checking camp, flag etiquette, first aid, bridge and tent construction, tower construction, all religion prayer, handicraft, knotting, cooking without utensils and the girl students were also rewarded. During this period, camp fire and various cultural and social activities were also conducted. Under her leadership, a five-day district level expert camp was organized. During this period, Mr. Babulal Gupta, Mrs. Smita Dwivedi, Jai Prakash Daksh provided their presence. Under her suprevision, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, poetry recitation and speech competitions were organized and the girl students were also awarded.
A long series of Aparajita programs were run by the Uttar Pradesh government which was led by Dr. Sabiha Rahmani. During this period, competitions like rally, speech, seminar, street play were organized. Under her leadership, Youth Parliament program was organized in which girl students from various colleges of the district participated. It is a moment of joy that college student Shreya Dixit participated in the state level competition in Lucknow by securing first position at district level.
In the current session, annual sports festival was completed under the direction of sports in-charge Dr. Vinod Singh Chandel in which Indoor competitions were held on and outdoor competitions were held on .On the occasion of the inauguration of the sports competition, Principal of Government College, Mahoba, Dr. Rambabu was the chief guest and at the closing and prize distribution ceremony, Principal of Government College, Maudaha, Dr…………………………Tripathi was the chief guest. In indoor games, badminton, chess, carrom, table tennis, kabaddi and in outdoor competitions, shot put, javelin throw, tawa throw, hammer throw, high jump, long jump, triple jump, relay race with 100 meter, 200 meter, and 400 meter race were organized and the winners, runners-up and victorious girl students were honored at various places. This year’s sports champion was Pooja Rajput.
A seven-day camp of National Service Scheme was organized in which the first unit was led by Dr. Sabiha Rahmani and the second unit was led by Mrs. Jyoti Mishra. During this period, activities like public awareness rally, street play, symposium, labor donation, camp fire were organized on a large scale. During this period, cleanliness and awareness programs were organized by the girl students of the camp in dalit colony Hardaul Talaiya.
Under the auspices of the Department of Sociology, in coordination with Dr. Sabiha Rahmani and under the direction of Dr. Pankaj Singh, a two-day national seminar on “Role of Women in New India” was organized on 3-4 November 2018 in which academicians and scholars from JNU, Jamia, Allahabad University, central universities including Kerala, Amity, Faizabad, Gramodaya, Rambhadracharya and many other colleges of the country expressed their views in various academic sessions.
It is a matter of satisfaction that Dr. Deepali Gupta edited the book on English subject of B.A. second year course of Bundelkhand University which has been published in this session. The book “Role of Women in New India” under the editorship of Dr. Sabiha Rahmani and the “Hindi In Global and Technological Era” under the editorship of Dr. Ankita Tiwari and Dr. Shashibhushan Mishra were published in this session. As an important part of the publication, the college magazine Surasari was published as a special issue of Banda. This is the first notable effort made by any educational institution of Banda district in which there are 10 articles on Banda district. Certainly this was possible due to the dedication of the Principal. This magazine is in your hands due to the editorship of Dr. Shashibhushan Mishra and co-editorship of Dr. Sabiha Rahmani, Dr. Deepali Gupta, Dr. Ankita Tiwari and Dr. Zeba Khan and the creative cooperation of the girl students.
The Innovation and Startup Summit 2019 organized at Government Medical College, Banda, in which college professors Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Dr. Maya Verma, Dr. Sabiha Rahmani, Dr. Pankaj Singh, as members of the academic team, played a significant role in successfully conducting the program. In the same year, Dr. Sabiha Rahmani, Head of the Department of Sociology, was jointly given the Swachhta Award by Amar Ujala and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Shashibhushan Mishra, Head of the Hindi Department, was given an award of Rs 15,000 for his important writing in youth criticism at the Raza Ceremony of Young Writers held in Delhi. In the same session, Dr. Maya Verma from Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur, Dr. Pankaj Singh from Heritage Center of Kumaon University, Nainital and Dr. Sapna Singh from Allahabad Central University completed the refresher course and obtained A grade.
In this session, the college got three new teachers in the form of Dr. Jai Prakash Singh, assistant professor of History, Dr. Sapna Singh, assistant professor of Political Science and Dr. Vinod Singh Chandel, assistant professor of Physical Education who have given new energy to the educational and cultural activities.
Daughters are our pride and providing them better education is the priority of the college. The progress of the nation lies in their progress. The proof of this is the excellent examination results of the college. It is a matter of pride that last year, Saba Naseem, a second year M.A. Urdu student, secured the highest marks in all subjects at the university level, for which she awarded gold medal by the Bundelkhand University. Preeti Yadav, B.A. third year student was awarded a silver medal by the University for obtaining the highest marks at the university level in the subject of music. The college wishes a bright future for the girl students.
Physical and human resources play a joint role in the development and progress of any organization. Despite limited material resources, it is our endeavor that this college plays its role in building a knowledgeable society.
